Do I need a permit to put up a fence in Connecticut?
It varies by town, and in Connecticut it also depends on height and placement — many towns require a permit above a certain height, and rules about front-yard setbacks and corner visibility differ from one municipality to the next. North Haven, Hamden and the surrounding towns each have their own. We'll tell you when we think a permit is required, but the application is the homeowner's to file — and we're happy to work to whatever the approved plan shows.
What's the most important part of a fence installation?
The posts, and nobody sees them once the job is done. How long does a fence installation take?

Yes — you should always have the state call-before-you-dig service mark the property before any post hole is dug, and we'll confirm that's done before we start. If there are private lines on the property that the free service doesn't cover — a line to an outbuilding or a pool, for example — that's worth flagging too, and we'll adjust the line or the depth accordingly.
Can you take down and remove an old fence?
Yes. Removing an existing fence, pulling the old posts and hauling everything away can be built into the estimate. We'll flag whether the old footings need to be dug out entirely or can stay, since that affects both the schedule and the cost.
